Hydrocyclone desanding - ICS

The hydro cyclone for sand is used downstream the sand removers in order to achieve a more stronger dewatering of outlet sand. It is used in several industrial sectors, from the sand removal to the screening, filtration and grinding. The hydro cyclone consists of a water inlet volute, a truncated-cone body and a manual valve placed in correspondence of the sand outlet.
The water goes in, through the volute, tangentially with respect to the hydro cyclone and, after a vortex, goes out in axial direction. The circular trajectory according to which the water runs, creates a centrifugal force proportionate to the material density, which therefore greatly pushes the sands towards the lateral walls of the truncated-cone body of the hydro cyclone, while the water goes upstream in the middle towards the outlet, dynamically pushed by the incoming water. An example of application for the hydro cyclone is the installation at the sand classifier inlet; in this case the hydro cyclone carries out a first sand-water separation and the subsequent sand classifier will have a smaller potentiality. Particular care is devoted to the machining of the internal surfaces of the equipment and also to the choice of the ratio among inlet section, cyclone diameter and volute diameter. In particular, these geometrical dimensions are established from time to time according to the flow rate, in order to maximize the equipment efficiency. The constructional simplicity of this equipment, the absence of any mechanical parts in motion and the absence of any gear motor ensure low installation and maintenance costs and a long operating life.
