Trolley speeds above 200 m/min are very common these days. This, in turn, is posing a challenge on the technical limits of traditional cable festoon systems.
To match the ever-increasing trolley speeds and related cable material load, new methods are being introduced. When motor-driven and drive-less cable festoon systems are combined, it results in an economical solution. For safe cable handling at over 200 m/min speed, certain cable festoon systems need to be provided with a drive. This is to ensure that the crane trolley and power supply are optimally aligned. In practice, each crane and its technical parameters determine how many motor-driven cable festoon systems are needed. These parameters include trolley track, acceleration, speed, number of runs, cable weight, etc.
